Rounding Out Your Food Groups

It is a very rainy day this morning and so cozy to be inside!! I made some pumpkin spice tea this morning to eat with my Kashi cereal and have decided to stay in this morning to get some organizing done and to catch up on work. My awesome business cards came in yesterday!! Love them. Oh dear, Emma is planting big juicy kisses on Sammi right now!! Now she is giving her hugs and putting her favorite blankie on her…she takes good care of Sam for us.

So on the topic of making healthy choices more often, I’ve been trying to be a more well-rounded eater (and help my hubbie and toddler do the same) – by hitting all of the food groups daily. So, for instance yesterday at B-study, I had a tiny bowl of wheat chex with milk in the morning before book group, then coffee and a two hearty slices of whole grain cinnamon raisin loaf from Great Harvest during group. So, come lunchtime I really wanted more bread (of course), but chose to round out my eating for the day with these: A cup of lentil soup, string cheese, cuke, carrots, and apple slices.

Yum. It was tasty, filling, and much fresher than more bread. Around 3 I paused during work for a little snack of Pumpkin Pie Oatmeal. I stirred half a cup of Libby’s Pure pumpkin into some leftover oatmeal, mixed in a pinch of nutmeg, cinnamon, brown sugar, and chopped pecans. It tasted like fresh pumpkin pie, sooooo good!! And pumpkin counts as a vegetable (according to the USDA’s newest guidelines), so more veggies for me!!
